There sure is, glad you enjoy his work so much. There should be a new Andrew Raymond Drennan novel out Christmas 2010.

After listening to the recent podcast, I am extremely heartened to hear the short story getting praised. At my school, English teachers would give the kids with 'poor' ability poetry or short stories to work on. The idea was they couldn't cope with something as complex as a 'proper' novel. Yet I find poetry rather complex and difficult to interept and I was supposedly good at English /media.cargopublishing.com/forum/img/smilies/wink.png">

The Year of Open Doors can see the short story being ticked. What about a poetry collection? I went to a recent poetry slam at Rio Cafe and there was some excellent talent floating about. Some utter rubbish as well though!

Err, what about non-fiction? Something personal on society, art or politics?

(not that Mr Buckland has strong opinions on the latter!)

Poetry would be good. Something radical.

On a side note, any plans to re-create the olde Cargo nights? Having dipped my toe into the Glasgow writing scence, I have come to the conclusion that it's a bit, well, wanky. There are cliques that lean towards 'established' talent and don't seem terribly receptive to any new writers.

Having written that, maybe I'm going to the wrong events.

Drusilla, I'd recommend Monosyllabik at Mono as a great night-very open and welcoming with a variety of different performers there.

There are no plans at the moment to bring back the Cargo nights. They are extremely expensive, time consuming and difficult to run but we hope further down the line this might be a possibility again.
