Roddy Doyle
Born in Dublin, Roddy Doyle (or Ruaidhrí Ó Dúill) is a Booker Prize-winning Irish writer in many media. He has written screenplays, non-fiction, plays and children’s books; his most recent book for kids is Her Mother’s Face, a moving and positive message about remembering one you’ve lost. His extensive works of fiction include Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha for which he won the 1993 Booker Prize, and The Last Roundup, a series of novels following the adventures of his character Henry Smart. Doyle’s Barrytown Triology was made into a series of successful films. At the beginning of 2009 he helped establish Fighting Words, a Dublin-based creative writing centre that helps children of all ages develop and expand their writing skills. Fighting Words provides free tutoring and is run by volunteers. Doyle’s most recent work is The Dead Republic (2010), which he reads from on YouTube.
